About Number Tango
Thank you for trying Number Tango!
Number Tango is an app for practicing Japanese numbers. It is intended to supplement an introductory language course or self study.
Decks
Number Tango offers card decks for practice, which are arranged by subject, such numerals, counter words, or unit names. Each deck contains several cards with recordings by a native speaker.
The Basic Numbers deck is available without a purchase. Please purchase Unlock All Decks to access all of the decks.
Practice
After opening a deck, tap Start Practice to start a practice session.
Remember to use headphones if appropriate, or adjust the volume on your device.
Number Tango chooses 10 random cards from the deck and presents the first card, playing the recording of the number in Japanese.
Answering
Listen to the recordings of each number in Japanese, enter the corresponding number in the response field, and press the submit button.
If you need to listen to the recording again, press the play button.
If you don’t know the answer, use the reveal button to display the number and the hiragana transcription.
If you answer correctly, a checkmark is shown, and the next card is presented.
If you answer incorrectly, an X is shown. Try again to enter the number in the response field.
Scoring
If you answer incorrectly or reveal the answer, Number Tango marks the card as incorrect for the practice session.
Your accuracy for a practice session is the percentage of cards marked correct.
Reviews
While you can practice decks any time you like, Number Tango also offers a spaced repetition system (SRS) to help manage your learning.
Once you finish a practice session with 100% accuracy, that deck is added to the SRS at the first level. Number Tango will suggest that you review the deck again the next day.
Reviewing a deck with 100% accuracy increases the deck’s level, and sets the date for the next review with a longer interval.
If you review a deck with less than 100% accuracy, its level decreases, and the next review date is set with a shorter interval.
The SRS has 5 levels, with intervals ranging from 1 day to 1 month.
